Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are of running around
New York City playing all the hottest video arcade games around.
Pizza parlors, train station arcades, movie theaters--if it had
an arcade game in it, I was there, funneling quarter after quarter
into those ungrateful sirens until I was broke, hungry and ready
to return to the real world. Space Invaders, Defender (ah, Defender!),
Asteroids, Q*Bert: I loved them all. And when I was out of money,
I could always retreat to my friend's apartment for hours of good
old PAC-Man (Atari 2600, of course!) Back in those days, juvenile
video game addiction wasn't as harmful as it is today. Sure, we
would spend countless sums in exchange for the cheapest of thrills,
but at least we would get out of the house and be active. My friends
and I would often walk over 5 miles to get to a pizza parlor that
had all the best games in good working order. These days, kids sit
on the couch and play video games for hours at a time, totally oblivious
to the dangers of the sedentary lifestyle. It's a shame, and it
not going to get any better any time soon. Today, video game manufacturers
and earning record profits on their hottest titles, and anything
goes when there are big profits to be made (a la Big Tobacco.)
I created this website for those of my generation who think back
to those hot summer days and smile. Play some of these free classic
arcade games and smile again, guaranteed! Joy! Joy.tv!
